Some Thoughts and Ideas on Aqiqah, Berendoi and Cukur jambul Decor

Hi mummies and daddies... and salam to all muslimin muslimah.

Mummy fissa was going through her personal collection items earlier this afternoon – (still until now after a year we moved in, i still do not get all our belongings in place and well-organised) some were bought whenever the moment i laid my eyes on them, some were souvenirs from friends and family, and few of them are my personal mementos from those who used to steal my heart (ehem ehem – have to keep them low that i hate when my hubby start digging deeper... ;p)
diy your existing canopy bed drapes to make it fabulous!
And there goes this bed drapery, one of the wedding gift from my boss, Kamil; which i converted its usage as my pelamin drapery decor during my akad nikah ceremony in Kota Bharu. It is actually only a simple canopy drapery for bed but i tried to soften the canopy's look for my wedding pelamin, nah! – complete with fresh flowers and drapery, instead of using the drapery as my wedding bed canopy, itu orang lain dah biasa buat with 4-posts bed. I am still looking for my dvds and memory card of my wedding which i misplaced it somewhere in the house to show you guys the full look of the canopy pelamin drapes. Though it was not as perfect as i wished it should be, i felt satisfied that i managed to inject my own personality to my akad nikah decor. Sheer white backdrop curtain with fairy lights twinkling through, and some creepers on top. For the canopy, i hid the raw ethnic look that surrounds the top canopy with fresh ivy leaves, babies breath and white roses. With some help of four white roses bouquet on stand to act as the four pillars, and the lighting to add dramatic feeling, it turned out fabulous in its own way! Thank God, an x-colleague of mine, kak F was around to help me out with all those messes prior to the event. I owed him alot, sanggup susah2 get a flight ticket to KB at last minute, help me out with the decor, pengantin nak pasang sendiri everything boleh pengsan you... That was sweet.
Anyway, ini ada some picture of the canopy bed drapes i was talking about  – the original look and the result after some transformation, so you guys could understand the use of creativity in everyday chores, that it creates more value to something raw...
before it is hung and decorated
to soften the ethnic look, need some cover up to its top part

picture was taken 3 years ago
see how the canopy with drapes is used for my pelamin
how nice if fairy's lights are suspended inside the canopy too :)
in the morning during the akad takes place, the pelamin only placed two big pillows for the groom and the imam to sit on.
after all, my mini pelamin for akad nikah ceremony is also being utilised for family photo session
in the picture: (left to right) adda my little n only sister, me n hubby

Anyway, since pure drapes covering bedding area, crib or cradle plays a vital role in giving immediate feel of royalty, luxury, and wealth – i was thinking of having this sort of theme for the upcoming project for aqiqah, berendoi and cukur jambul decor. Besides permitting privacy, i believe this drapes can add charm and character to the event itself, fabulous! ngee :D
some samples using drapery for the cradle, done by others

in the next post, mummy fissa shall share her diy curtain backdrop and the art of mix & match your linen with some ornaments (from your existing personal collection). be smart, she always makes sure the shelf life of her specially made event deco does not stop after the event, turn it into your house/space deco. Why not be more cost efficient? ngeee.... (*o') wink

till here, feel free to drop me some comments, yah?

cheers!
mummy fissa

Aqiqah – some info from kambinghalal.blogspot.com

for those who seeks information on Aqiqah, this article will be useful

WHAT IS AQIQAH?

Aqiqah, in Islamic terminology, is defined as the animal that is slaughtered on the occasion of child birth.

The performance of Aqiqah is highly encouraged. It is to be performed by the parents or the guardians of the child. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions used to perform Aqiqah when they were bestowed with a newborn.

WHEN SHOULD AQIQAH BE PERFORMED?

The best time to perform Aqiqah is on the seventh day after the birth of the baby.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF AQIQAH?

There are many benefits in the performance of Aqiqah. One is the announcing the birth of the baby. Being bestowed a child is a great blessing from the Creator. Another purpose is inviting family members, neighbors, and friends to celebrate the blessed occasion. The poor should be included in the celebration by offering them food and meat served on this occasion.

TYPES OF ANIMAL TO BE SLAUGHTERED

The following is a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) where he advised Aqiqah a goat/sheep.

Narrated Umm Kurz: The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Two sheep which resemble each other are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl. (Sunan Abu Dawood Book 15, No. 2830)

THE CONDITION OF ANIMAL FOR AQIQAH

The condition of the animals in Aqiqah is the same as the conditions for the animals in Qurbani. The animals to be slaughtered must be a goats, cows or camels. For camels, it must be older than 6 years, for cows the age must be older than 3 years and for goats, it must be older than 2 years. They must be free from any form of handicap such as blind, sick, limp and undernourished. The animals must be slaughtered in the appropriate humane ways.

to saudara fairul, thank you for sharing the info

Danial's Aqiqah (27 Feb 2011)

date: 27 february 2011 (sun)
venue: taman bukit permata, batu caves, kuala lumpur, selangor., malaysia
party planner: myself
mrs host wif danial greeting our guests
helium balloon banyak hilang...?

On 27th Feb 2011, in conjunction with my baby's first birthday (he was born 28 feb last year), we held a makan-makan get together (with our close friends, family and neighbors too) for my son's aqiqah at our home sweet home. from planning, invitation, coordination to taking care of the d├ęcor, we managed to keep that simple and humble party going smoothly and yet the guests kept coming in and out from 12 noon to 12 midnight.
surau members

The event started with the arrival of surau taman bukit permata members to marhaban and selawat to our Rasulullah (taking the bless  from the month of maulidur rasul). Realised that time is the essence, we had the aqiqah person to cook and cater for the side dishes only. I was actually worry if the taste will not be as good as we did not have the chance and time to go for food tasting – i managed to convince my mother who flew all the way from Kota Bharu to cook for the main dish (her popular signature dish nasi uzbekistan and chicken kuzi, a tomato based gravy originate from Kelantan: we eat with bun). We only asked the caterer to roast the lamb on-site (sayangnya i was too busy that i did not get any picture of what was served), mixed dalca and ayam goreng rempah. And alhamdulillah, their food tasted good.. Most guests liked the taste of their mint sauce for the roast lamb... mild and not overpowering – the lamb was well marinated and tender too... Guests were happy with what was served. I had my husband go to the hypermarket in the morning to get some fresh fruits to serve for dessert, along with my sister's yummy buttercream cupcakes in blue shade (theme colour), we had an ice cream guy (on motorcycle) to standby in our compound too as the weather was extremely hot on that day (RM1/cone). By 6pm, the food had finished without any wastage pun. As for the drink, we started out with sirap selasih but in the end, it turned out to be grape cordial.
6pm
leftovers at 6

Spatial coordination, we put up 2 pop up tents for guests to eat outside of the house (attached to the porch), buffet table under the porch, while for mingling area i had our guest-hall on ground floor opened and free for guest to rest and relax after eating. By doing this way, we don't have to deal with the messes inside the house. The idea is – as the guests approaches the gate, they are greeted by the mr host with some paper decor under the tent, they choose their dining seat, go to the buffet table under the porch, again they sees mrs host at the mingling area so no one will feel that they are isolated or left out.

To treat the kids, i prepared them their party pack though we did not really do the candle blowing ceremony during the event (my son birthday is on the next day). Put in some balloons, gummies, noise-makers, horn and various animal character masks, it lit their face up at least. For kid's activity, I asked a young cousin of mine for his favor to conduct games like musical chair and body tattooing (non-permanent one la!) and guess what, we managed to put all kids under control in a separate section of my house (family hall at 1st floor with private backyard). They were screaming happily and seemed to enjoy their activity.

It was a good party. My son was overexcited and had mild fever on the day after.

Spend Less for a Memorable Birthday For Your Kid's or Baby's Party

He or she is another year older. And his or her time of the year is just around the corner – they all said that some of these over the top parties are tons of fun — but of course they also cost tons of money! (otherwise you gonna have to spend your own time and energy for the preparation). Should you choose to hire a party planner to do the whole thing, it must have costs you a bomb. And believe me, one-stop-centre will never do right with a tight budget. What about planning it your own, and finding your own resources to help you out? You have your own idea to throw in and will work with the team you personally asses and assign. Sounds interesting, kan? Well, let see from afar first.

How Many Guest Am I Inviting?

Important issue that most of us tend to forget is to count on the number of attendees, not the number of invitation made. For example if you are inviting En. Ahmad, is he coming with his whole family? If yes, how many of them are coming? How many of adults and how many of kids or babies? Kenapa penting? Because of the following considerations:
• space (indoor, outdoor, home, a rented venue?)
• food and beverages (you don't want serving some kind of delivery pizza for some unlucky guests before the party ends)
• party pack (just imagine you don't have anything for Donny of Puan Liza, your boss' son, who came with a latest, fancy-imported toy for your kid)
• activities (do you have privacy space for parents to breastfeed or solat? and some space for your closest family member to wind down and get together? space for the kids to play?)

Food For Thought

Instead of catered fabulousness (remember, we’re writing this from our experiences in KL, respectively – catering for kids parties is not unusual!) you can go for simple, crowd pleasing fare. If you have the time and energy, you can make hamburger patties yourself (instead of, as some of us calls them, ‘the cheap, gross pre-made ones’), hotdogs, corn on the cob, fried chicken, pasta, potato chips and home made cupcakes, they are much healthier for your beloved ones to chew on. It might seem obvious, but you wouldn’t believe some of the pressure out there to serve fancy fare and keep up with Joneses! Otherwise, you can always look up from my own family-altered recipes such as nasi daging and nasi uzbekistan which i would like to share with everybody who is always interested in 'cooking with love'... and believe me, both kids and adults would love them.

You can always be wise on the food, because you also do not want to waste. Remember, Allah bencikan mereka yang melakukan pembaziran. If your total guests (adults and kids) are 200, just order from the catered food for half of it – you may add up with your own preferred place or person to prepare for some of the food you are serving. Maybe you can just order your dessert from a colleague of yours who is known for her best carrot cake you ever had, or get some fresh fruits from the hypermarket and slice it nicely, and serve it with some chocolate dip, whipped cream, ice creams, and crunches of nuts. Dapat guests be in their own fantasies sekejap... it's fun for everybody, believe me!

 99 Cent Store Decor

You can blow up some balloons, bought a cheap pinata (you can also easily make one!), fill up your kiddie splashing pool and blow up your own bounce house (not a rented one, but the one that can be bought at some hypermarket & it can be used all of the time-for about RM150)! That was ‘it’. Which is, of course, is a lot effort and energy– but not a lot of money!

Oh, and speaking of pinatas, if you live in an apartment and just don’t have room to do a traditional one, try our take on the “urban pinata’ – just hide candy or small grab bag toys around the house and let the kids go on a scavenger hunt for them – what they find they get to keep!

Do Yourself A Favor

In what seems like a bit of kid party heresy, you can decide to try out NO party favors this year!  Seriously, I am sure we’ve all been there where you blow a couple hundred bucks on useless little things the kids (or parents) just throw out anyway!  I was wondering if the other moms and kids were horrified, but I swear no one even noticed!  After attending one too many extravagant parties (pony rides in the yard, over a hundred 5 years olds at a 4 star hotel, a firetruck that makes pizzas), she hit her limit when, at one party, the hosts gave out full sized Tonka trucks worth RM50 …as party favors!

Old-Fashioned Fun

You may also swear (at least at this younger age) that old sack races and treasure hunt still hold up with full force fun. The crazy thing is, since no one really does it anymore, you may seem like the cool family who tried out the exotic new games!
We also went to one great party where the activity – and the favor – which was also dessert – was decorating your own cupcakes – great, cheap fun and delicious too! A lot of time these big parties are much more about the adults – and not that there’s anything wrong with that – but not all of us having that kind of dough to blow!

Take the Cake

Every taman has their fancy go-to bakeries.  Last year I made a Sponge Bob cake for a friend's son as his first birthday treat... and it was awesome!  I actually made two of them – for a total of maybe RM60? As opposed to the at least RM60 the specialty bakery near you would have charged for one? Done and YUM!

The Genius of Jaja

A couple years back, my friend Jaja had one of the most fun kids parties of all time in her backyard.  It was a totally D.I.Y. home grown fiesta – and those kids had a BLAST!  She strung doughnuts up by a rope and had a hands-free doughnut eating content! Then in another corner of the yard the kids were filling up water balloons and hurling them against a wall.  Again, not reinventing the wheel, but sometimes we have to remind ourselves that getting back to basics actually works!

Just do not feel shy and nervous that people would think your Fab & Fru party plan was lame – but no one did! It reminded us of our childhoods and was actually retro and cool.  As we all know by now, being frugal is chic – not cheap- when you get creative! And believe us, your kids won’t be judging you on how much you spent on their party – only on how much fun they have!

So, have fun planning for your own kid's birthday party, bunnies!

mummy danial
